
On December 23, 2025, an important meeting was held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to strengthen consular cooperation between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olim Abdullayev, while on the Saudi side, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs Ihab bin Muhammad Al-Najjar participated. This meeting marked the first stage of consular consultations between the two countries.
The negotiations discussed issues related to the protection of citizens' rights and legal interests. In particular, the need to improve mechanisms for prompt mutual notification in cases of detention, temporary custody, or deportation was emphasized.
Additionally, agreements were reached on expanding cooperation in labor migration, mutual recognition of citizens' documents, implementation of the apostille system, and digitalization of consular services. All these measures aim to facilitate administrative processes for the citizens of both countries.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached to apply the experience of Uzbekistan in the new digital platform being developed for foreign citizens in Saudi Arabia. This system will enable the prompt identification and effective resolution of issues faced by citizens living abroad.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the second stage of consular consultations in Tashkent. This meeting demonstrates the consistent development of relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia and the elevation of practical cooperation to a new level.
