It is planned to significantly increase local railway passenger transportation in Uzbekistan by 2030. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A special presidential decree has been adopted in this regard. This document aims to expand the volume of traffic on local routes and develop the electric train network.
This was reported by podrobno.uz. According to the plan, by 2030, the number of passengers transported on local railway routes will increase from 10.5 million to 23.5 million per year.
In addition, the number of routes with electric train services will increase from 40 to 53. The decree sets important tasks for the Ministry of Transport and the joint-stock company "Uzbekistan Railways" to develop passenger transportation.
In particular, starting from 2026, it is planned to launch high-speed electric train services on the "Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva" route along the 465-kilometer electrified "Bukhara – Khiva" line. Furthermore, electrification works on the 196-kilometer "Miskin – Nukus" section are expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
High-speed electric train services are also planned to be established on this route. Additionally, the modernization of the "Angren – Pop" and "Toshguzar – Boysun – Kumkurgan" railway sections has been identified as one of the urgent tasks.
As a result of these efforts, by 2030, rapid electric train services are expected to be launched in the Andijan, Namangan, Fergana, and Surkhandarya regions. It is worth noting that additional trips of the popular "Afrosiyob" high-speed train on busy routes are also expected to be launched on the eve of the New Year.
