A new logistics center will be built on the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border

A new logistics center is planned to be built on the border between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This project is managed by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan, and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project Implementation Center. They have started developing the feasibility study (FS) for the construction of the logistics center.
This was reported by podrobno.uz. The new logistics center will be located in the area of the “Fotehabad” and “Oybek” border crossing points.
Work on the project began following the signing of a technical assistance agreement in Dushanbe. According to this document, the EDB Technical Assistance Fund will cover the costs of evaluating the project’s effectiveness and preparing the feasibility study.
Shoista Saidmurodzoda, Deputy Minister of Transport of Tajikistan, emphasized that this project is the first initiative implemented based on the public-private partnership mechanism. Vladimir Yakunin, EDB’s director in Tajikistan, noted that developing modern logistics infrastructure is one of the main directions of Tajikistan’s logistics development program for 2023–2028.
This program aims to upgrade infrastructure, develop quality project documentation, and attract investments to the transport and logistics sector. According to Yakunin, preparing the FS for the “Fotehabad” project will contribute to increasing the efficiency of cross-border trade in the region.
Additionally, the EDB announced its readiness to consider financing the construction of this center. This project will serve to improve the quality of infrastructure initiatives, enhance the qualifications of specialists, and create a foundation for implementing large investment projects.
As a result, it is planned to develop Tajikistan’s transport and logistics system, increase the sector’s investment attractiveness, and expand the volume of trade in the region. Furthermore, earlier discussions were held regarding the establishment of a trade and industrial zone in the areas of the “Oybek” and “Fotehabad” crossing points, as well as the development of production capacities and logistics infrastructure.
