Prisoners were granted the right to have video communication with their relatives

New amendments to the Criminal Executive Code serve to increase the opportunities for prisoners to communicate with their relatives. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the new rule, persons deprived of liberty will now have the right to conduct video communication with their relatives remotely. This change was adopted on January 15, 2026, and will come into force from the day the law is officially published.
Under the new procedure, prisoners can use their own funds to have a 15-minute video call or telephone conversation. This measure aims to maintain prisoners' contact with family members and provide them with social and psychological support.
Previously, only a single 15-minute phone call was allowed. Now, video communication is legally established and offered to prisoners as an additional opportunity.
Experts believe that the introduction of remote video communication will help ensure that prisoners do not become isolated from social life, maintain their psychological stability, and promote wider use of modern technologies in the penal system. These changes are expected to further develop the principles of humanity within the penal enforcement system.
