Prisoners can reduce their sentences by reading books

A new regulation is planned to be introduced in Uzbekistan to support the spiritual development of prisoners. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to this regulation, reading books by prisoners may serve as a basis for sentence reduction. Under the initiative, the books read by prisoners will be evaluated by a special commission.
After the commission issues its conclusion, this information will be submitted to the court. If the commission's conclusion is positive, the court may consider reducing the prisoner's sentence by up to 30 days per year.
This privilege will be applied individually for each prisoner. Factors such as the prisoner's behavior, discipline, and social security will be taken into account.
This initiative is designed to increase prisoners' interest in reading and to have a positive impact on their spiritual development. Source: zamin.uz
