President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in a high-level meeting within the framework of the thirteenth session of the World Urbanization Forum held in Baku. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The influential event was attended by the heads of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, and Bulgaria, as well as the heads of government of Georgia and Kazakhstan, and responsible representatives of the United Nations Organization. Forum participants discussed in detail the sustainable development of modern cities, the construction of affordable and comfortable housing for the population, and environmental protection.

The leader of our state, in his speech, noted that urbanization processes today are acquiring global significance. According to forecasts, by the middle of our century, a significant portion of the Earth's population will live in cities.

This, in turn, directly affects issues of social stability and security. In Uzbekistan, too, the level of urbanization is steadily increasing.

Over the next fifteen years, the country's population is expected to reach fifty million, and the level of urbanization is projected to exceed sixty-five percent. Taking these changes into account, large-scale reforms are being implemented in Uzbekistan.

In particular, it is planned to significantly renew and modernize the housing stock by 2030. Furthermore, as part of the National Green Space program aimed at improving the ecological situation in cities, the task has been set to increase the level of greenery to thirty percent.

These measures, while improving living conditions for the population, also play an important role in the fight against climate change. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also paid special attention to the issue of informal settlements.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of neighborhoods in urban planning and fully meeting the social needs of the population. Currently, in our country, the National Urbanization Commission is operating to systematically manage these processes.

The fact that up to two billion dollars annually are allocated for financing state programs to provide the population with housing demonstrates Uzbekistan's firm commitment in this area.
