According to official information provided by the US Geological Survey, the natural disaster was recorded at 11:11 GMT and 14:11 Moscow time. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 14.4 kilometers east of the city of Udalguri, at a depth of 10 kilometers underground.
Earthquakes occurring at this depth usually cause strong tremors. So far, there have been no official reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.
Indian officials and emergency services continue to investigate the incident and assess possible consequences. Local authorities are urging the public to remain calm and follow instructions only from official sources.
Ground shaking was also felt in nearby towns and villages in the affected area. Some residents reportedly evacuated their homes, and there have been reports of power outages.
