The famous Marineland aquarium in Canada is threatening to destroy 30 whales due to financial difficulties. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Bild newspaper, the aquarium management stated that if the federal government does not provide assistance or allow the animals to be sent abroad, they will be forced to make a difficult decision. This was stated in an official letter sent to the government.
Marineland previously tried to transfer the animals to the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom park in China, but Canadian Fisheries Minister Joan Thompson rejected this proposal. The minister emphasized that it is important to prevent whales from suffering in captivity.
The aquarium has faced criticism before, with 20 whales having died there since 2019. Earlier this year, reports spread that Marineland had closed its doors and was put up for sale.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford emphasized that all measures will be taken to rescue the animals. Rights activists accuse the management of blackmail and demand that they be held accountable.
Camilla Labchak, a representative of the Animal Justice organization, stated that Marineland has profited from the suffering of these animals for years and now they must make a responsible decision.
