Recently, at Sotheby's auction held in New York City, the artist's painting titled “Paris novels collections and roses in a glass” was sold for $62.7 million. This was reported by NL Times.
According to information, this artwork was purchased by the renowned art expert Petti Wong. The final price of the lot was 35 percent higher than the initial estimates.
Before the auction, specialists from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam thoroughly studied this canvas and confirmed its authenticity. This artwork was painted in November-December 1887 in Paris, during the period when Van Gogh lived with his brother Theo.
During this time, the artist developed a freer and more passionate style under the influence of French art and life. Many art enthusiasts consider this sale an important event confirming the growing interest in Van Gogh's work.
