The government of Uzbekistan has announced significant changes in the vehicle registration system. This was reported by Upl.uz.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution No. 562 dated September 4, 2023, starting from the beginning of 2026, car owners will have the opportunity to purchase unique state number plates. These plates will consist of letters and numbers and can represent personal names or meaningful words.
The responsibility for implementing this initiative has been assigned to the state unitary enterprise "Uzavtomotobelgi." This organization will grant the right to sell exclusive numbers through open electronic auctions.
The price of the numbers will be determined based on market demand and supply. According to the new regulation, combinations of up to six characters consisting of letters and numbers can be used on the number plates.
This will allow citizens to personalize their cars with numbers such as "SARVAR," "AZIZA," or "BUKHARA." Additionally, the resolution sets certain restrictions.
Unique numbers must not duplicate those already existing in the current database. Their content must also not contradict the country's legislation or generally accepted moral standards.
This measure will prevent the appearance of inappropriate or undesirable numbers. Monitoring will be carried out by authorized bodies.
This innovation is part of the republic's program for reforming and digitizing public services. The online auction process is expected to ensure transparency and become an additional source of revenue for the state budget.
Sales will be conducted on a special electronic platform, which reduces the risk of human error and corruption. Detailed information about the auction procedures and starting prices will be provided later.
The practice of selling personalized car numbers through auctions is widespread in many countries. For example, in the United Arab Emirates, the number plate with just the digit "1" was sold for a record amount exceeding 14 million US dollars.
