The strict customs policy implemented by the administration of US President Donald Trump is forcing global automotive giants to make strategic decisions. One.uz reports on this.

Germany's famous Audi Group has officially announced the construction of a modern car plant in the state of Georgia, USA, with a total value of $4 billion. Once the new enterprise is fully operational, it will produce 200,000 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) per year and create 4,500 new jobs for the local population.

Tariff pressure and billions in losses For the German car manufacturer, this massive investment decision is not just an expansion but a serious economic necessity. Last year, the Trump administration imposed 25% tariffs on imported cars, steel, aluminum, and components.

As a result, Audi suffered a loss of $1.4 billion within one year. Until now, the company had been importing all models sold in the US market only from Europe and Mexico.

This resulted in enormous costs under the tariffs. According to US requirements, car manufacturers can only escape tariff pressure if the "American component" share in the product composition is high.

Q7, Q8 and new flagship Q9 models Audi management planned to fully localize the most important and expensive segment for the American market. CEO Gernot Dyollner stated: "We plan to bring our largest and premium SUVs to the city of Macon in the state of Georgia and manufacture them here.

We believe in the American market, and this is our long-term investment." According to sources, the assembly of premium Audi Q7, Q8 and the upcoming flagship Q9 models will be carried out at the plant.

The construction of the plant is expected to begin in 2027, with the first cars rolling off the line in the early 2030s. Trump's reaction and chain changes in the global market US political circles evaluate this decision as a significant victory for the national economy and the "Make America Great Again" program.

Donald Trump stated that the Audi Group was "brought to the US" specifically by its customs tariffs. Senator Bernie Moreno emphasized that the German auto giant would never build a plant in America without new tariffs and a smart management system.

Previously, it was reported that Japan's Nissan Motor Group had also begun efforts to move some of its production capacities to the US to avoid Trump's tariffs.
