A new virtual gearbox has been installed in the Porsche Taycan electric vehicle

Porsche has significantly modernized its most famous Taycan electric car. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The main highlight of this update is the new E-Shift virtual gearbox, designed to provide the driver with additional sensations on the road and racing tracks. This technology brings the electric car's handling closer to that of traditional internal combustion engine sports cars.

The new virtual transmission system simulates an eight-speed gearbox. Porsche engineers studied the characteristics of their famous PDK gearbox and programmatically integrated them into the Taycan's control unit.

For the system to function perfectly, the virtual gears are coordinated with the existing two-stage mechanical gearbox. Company representatives emphasize that using the E-Shift mode does not limit the Taycan's power and does not negatively affect the real-life driving range or energy efficiency.

This aspect distinguishes Porsche's system from other similar solutions on the market. For example, while Hyundai has implemented a similar system in its N models, Porsche is introducing this technology across all models in the Taycan range.

The E-Shift system works in harmony with an updated sound system called Porsche Electric Sound. According to Porsche engineer Max Geiger, the team decided against simply copying the sound of a gasoline engine and instead created a unique synthesized sound that fits the nature of the electric car.

This provides the driver with acoustic pleasure when accelerating and shifting gears. The driver can activate the E-Shift mode by pressing a special button on the GT sport steering wheel.

After that, a virtual tachometer appears in the center of the instrument panel. A change is immediately felt inside the car.

The Porsche Electric Sound system begins to emit a sound similar to the idling sound of a gasoline engine. The features of the new system include the following.

There is a separately tuned gear characteristic for each Taycan variant. It is possible to physically feel the gear shifts during acceleration.
