"Chery" hybrid engine reached a record 48.57 percent efficiency

Chery Automobile has made a real breakthrough in engineering, Zamin.uz reported.
The company unveiled its new Kunpeng Tianqing hybrid engine, which achieved a record-breaking thermal efficiency of 48.57%. This figure represents the highest result currently in the global automotive industry and sets a new benchmark for the efficiency of internal combustion engines.
Thermal efficiency indicates what portion of the heat energy generated from fuel combustion is converted directly into mechanical power. For comparison, the efficiency of average gasoline engines available on the market today ranges from 38% to 45%.
Chery’s achievement is considered a major leap in fuel economy and environmental friendliness. Such high efficiency was achieved through deep optimization of the engine’s design and improvement of the fuel injection system into the cylinders.
The new Kunpeng Tianqing unit is designed not only for conventional hybrids but also for electric vehicles with range-extending generators. This significantly increases the distance a car can travel on a single fuel charge and power output.
Currently, the company’s main task is to stabilize the mass production of this engine and control its cost. Chery specialists plan to strengthen the brand’s position in the global market by introducing this technology into serial vehicles.
Other Chinese brands are also actively competing in the hybrid technology arena. For example, Geely previously developed an engine with a thermal efficiency of 48.41% using artificial intelligence algorithms.
The Changan brand, meanwhile, presented a series-produced hybrid engine with a high-pressure direct injection system. However, Chery has so far managed to stay ahead of all its competitors.
Chery’s sales figures are also growing rapidly. In 2025, the brand’s total sales reached 2.8 million units, of which 1.34 million were exports.
This result allows Chery to maintain its position as China’s largest automobile exporter. The new record-breaking engine is especially valuable for foreign markets where charging infrastructure is insufficiently developed.
This technology, which saves fuel and enables long-distance travel, is expected to attract significant interest in countries like Uzbekistan, where climate and distances create specific demands.
