Ancient monuments and historical artifacts in Gaza have been seriously endangered as a result of Israeli airstrikes. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Volunteers led by archaeologist Fadel al-Otol managed to relocate several truckloads of artifacts to a safe place. However, the items remaining in the al-Kawthar building were completely destroyed due to an explosion.
The history of Gaza has been enriched over millennia by traces of various civilizations, preserving the cultural heritage of the people through ancient mosques and cemeteries. Unfortunately, during the war, a large part of these monuments was damaged or completely lost.
According to UNESCO, over a hundred historical sites in Gaza have been damaged. Israeli military forces emphasize that their attacks targeted “areas housing Hamas facilities.”
Therefore, serious debates continue regarding the destruction of cultural heritage. Hundreds of historical artifacts related to Gaza are preserved in museums abroad.
Experts consider these collections an important resource for restoration efforts in the future. The local population lives with hope of restoring their historical heritage once the war ends.
This situation highlights the urgent need to take serious measures to preserve Gaza’s rich cultural heritage and pass it on to new generations.
