The Guinness World Records announced that this game has sold over 350 million copies. Minecraft was initially released as a free alpha version in May 2009.

In 2011, its official version was released, and this game sold over 300 million copies, becoming the first video game to reach this milestone. Additionally, the film based on Minecraft became one of the highest-grossing films worldwide in the first half of 2025.
