The film “Evil: Part 2,” directed by Chu, earned $30.8 million from its initial screenings. Variety magazine recognized this figure as the highest result of 2025.
It should be noted that these earnings came not only from the traditional Thursday screenings ($18.2 million) but also from special screenings held on Monday and Wednesday ($12.6 million). The previous record holder of the year was the film “Superman,” which earned $22.5 million during its initial Thursday screenings and $125 million over the first weekend.
Based on the results of the first weekend, “Evil: Part 2” is projected to collect between $150 million and $180 million. This could make it one of the highest-grossing debuts of the year.
Currently, the record in this regard belongs to the film “Minecraft in cinema,” which earned $10.6 million in its initial days and reached a total of $162 million. The first film titled “Evil: A Tale About the Western Wizard” earned $19.2 million during its initial screenings last year and $112.5 million over the first weekend.
The events of “Evil: Part 2” take place several years after the first part. Elfaba is expelled from the land of Oz and hides in the forests, while Glinda joins the Wizard’s side.
Nevertheless, the wizards decide to unite once again.
