Large banknotes dominate cash circulation

According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as of January 1, 2026, the largest share of cash in circulation consisted of 100,000-som banknotes, accounting for 36.4 percent. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The second place is occupied by 200,000-som banknotes, which make up 28.5 percent. These figures indicate that large denominations are increasingly dominating cash circulation.
The Central Bank also emphasizes that the use of small denomination banknotes among the population is decreasing. This situation means that the phrase "it's hard to get small change" is not just a complaint but has become a reality.
This indicates the dominance of large banknotes in economic circulation. People are becoming more accustomed to using large bills for daily purchases, which reduces the demand for small change.
For this reason, large banknotes are increasingly used in cash circulation.
