
The employees of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan successfully stopped a large-scale attempt to illegally bring jewelry from a neighboring country. This was reported by Upl.uz.
During the conducted operation, more than 4 kilograms of jewelry made of gold and decorated with real diamonds were identified, and a person related to this crime was detained. The incident occurred at the "Vodil Avto" customs post.
A 33-year-old citizen from Andijan, who arrived from Kyrgyzstan and was heading to the Fergana region, was stopped, and as a result of a personal search, 859 various pieces of jewelry and one wristwatch were found hidden under his clothing. Analysis conducted by experts confirmed that these items were made of high-quality gold and contained real diamonds.
The net weight of the items amounted to 4 kilograms and 155 grams, with an estimated value of approximately 5 billion 213 million soums. During the investigation, it was revealed that about ten traders from the Andijan and Fergana regions were behind this illegal operation.
The jewelry was brought from Turkey to Kyrgyzstan. The detained courier was supposed to smuggle the valuable items across the border into Uzbekistan for a reward of 400 dollars.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 182, Part 2, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (serious violation of customs legislation, especially committed in large quantities). Currently, law enforcement agencies are actively working to identify all individuals involved in the crime and to find the owners of the seized jewelry.
