
During an urgent operation in Qashqadaryo region, the head of the district department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was detained. This was reported by Upl.uz.
According to the press service of the State Security Service, the head of the emergency situations department of Shahrisabz district is suspected in a corruption case. The investigation revealed that the official demanded money in exchange for assistance in employment.
Specifically, he requested a total of 6,000 US dollars from two candidates for the driver positions in the professional fire-rescue units of Shahrisabz and Chirakchi districts. During an urgent operation conducted by law enforcement agencies, the suspect was caught receiving 3,500 dollars while on duty.
The department head was apprehended in his office and is currently in custody. A criminal case has been opened by the investigative authorities regarding this incident.
The actions of the official are evaluated under Articles 168 “Fraud” and 211 “Bribery” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The suspect remains in detention during the investigation.
According to current legislation, for the crime of accepting a large bribe by an official, a penalty of imprisonment from 10 to 15 years may be applied. These incidents once again highlight the importance of combating corruption in public service.
