The mayor of Namangan has been arrested, according to the press service of the State Security Service. This was reported by Upl.uz.
Officers of the State Security Service, together with other law enforcement agencies, detained three criminals. It has been revealed that the head of a limited liability company specializing in shoe manufacturing conspired with the mayor of Namangan city.
He promised to help another citizen obtain a 35 sotix land plot for the construction of a multi-apartment building in the city. The construction is planned to take place on the site of old residential buildings.
The criminal was caught while receiving 60 thousand US dollars, which was later given to the mayor’s assistant – a government official. Currently, the mayor of Namangan city has been stripped of his parliamentary immunity.
He and his assistant have been charged under Article 168, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which pertains to the crime of bribery. They may face imprisonment from 10 to 15 years.
Additionally, a criminal case has been opened against the accomplice for fraud and aiding in bribery. As part of the investigation, the mayor’s activities will be thoroughly examined.
This case is considered an important part of the fight against corruption in government institutions, and it is emphasized that everyone is accountable before the law.
