For the first time in the history of the Tashkent metro, women have started working as electric train drivers, Kursiv Media reported. They are currently undergoing practical training under the supervision of experienced instructors and are expected to start driving trains independently in the near future.
The selection for women train drivers was announced in 2024 at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Employees who had worked in various departments of the metro participated in the selection. Candidates underwent interviews, medical examinations, and psychological tests. As a result, 16 women were accepted.
They have completed intensive training courses for 11 months, learning the rules of train operation, technical structure, and the principles of pneumatic systems.
