Former player of Bayer, Lokomotiv, and other European and Russian Premier League clubs Dmitriy Bulykin compared the financial expenditures of clubs in the English Premier League and the Russian championship in an interview with the publication Euro-Futbol.Ru. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, English clubs have very large budgets, and their income from television rights allows them to spend significant amounts. Therefore, they are capable of spending heavily to win the Premier League or even the Champions League.
Russian clubs, on the other hand, often spend money on new players, but they do not deliver the expected results. As a result, clubs do not generate income; instead, commissions paid to agents and other expenses increase.
In Bulykin's opinion, goals in Europe are different, and the money spent is covered through marketing or rewards given by UEFA for the Champions League. In Russia, however, the objectives are different.
Additionally, in the summer of 2025, the English Premier League club Liverpool broke its transfer record. They paid 125 million euros for the German midfielder Florian Wirtz.
This amount is the highest sum in the history of the competition.
