The Morocco national team won the African Nations Championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In the final match, they defeated Madagascar 3-2. This tournament is held among national teams whose players play in foreign clubs.
Last year's tournament was postponed due to preparation issues in one of the host countries. In the group stage, Morocco finished in second place, behind Kenya.
They finished ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, and Zambia. Madagascar also finished second in their group, behind Tanzania, and ahead of Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.
In the playoff stage, Madagascar won against Kenya and Sudan, while Morocco defeated Tanzania and Senegal. In the final match, Madagascar opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a beautiful strike by Felisite Mantasoa.
In the 27th minute, Yusuf Mehri responded with a precise header from a cross delivered from the wing. At the end of the first half, Usama Lamliui put Morocco ahead.
The referee, with the help of VAR, did not confirm a handball by a Madagascar player. In the 68th minute, Toki Rakontondraibe equalized for Madagascar.
In the 80th minute, Usama Lamliui scored his second goal with a powerful long-range shot. Thus, Morocco won the championship for the third time in history, while Madagascar earned silver medals for the first time.
