Ebola virus disease detected in Nigeria with 44 cases reported

A case of Ebola virus infection has been recorded in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. One.uz reports this.
According to The Guardian, 44 people who were in direct contact with the patient have been identified and are being tested for infection. The female patient's symptoms began on October 7, she was admitted to the hospital four days later, and tests confirmed she was infected with Ebola.
When the patient arrived in Nigeria and where she contracted the virus has not yet been determined. The Ministry of Health of Uganda stated that she traveled through the country's territory in transit.
According to the Ministry, she is a Nigerian citizen who traveled to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a service trip. However, Nigerian officials have not yet confirmed her citizenship.
Expert assessments and the situation in neighboring countries Jan Kaseya, Director of Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, described the situation as an "extremely serious threat." According to him, the mortality rate of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus is nearly 50 percent.
Kenya also confirmed its first case of Ebola infection earlier this month, and since then, nine cases of infection have been recorded. Uganda, on the other hand, announced that the previous epidemic had ended.
Prevention measures Nigerian health authorities have intensified epidemiological surveillance after the disease was detected in Kenya and have taken measures to prepare for a potential epidemic. The source of infection has not yet been identified, and experts are assessing the risk of virus spread by testing individuals who were in contact with the patient.
