Earlier, it was reported that the parties had reached an agreement on the transfer, but at the last minute, Manchester United chose 23-year-old Senna Lammens from Antwerp. According to the Mirror, the Red Devils' sports department decided to give up on the services of 33-year-old Martinez.

This decision is related to his age and high annual salary of approximately 12 million euros. The Argentine goalkeeper has been representing Aston Villa since 2020.
