The Brazilian Football Confederation has decided to relieve national team head coach Dorival Junior of his duties. This was reported by UOL.
The defeat was the reason
The main reason for the Brazilian leadership's decision was the 1:4 defeat to Argentina during the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup. Such a significant defeat has led to serious criticism in Brazilian football.
Issues are not just about the defeat
In fact, there were already objections to Dorival Junior beforehand. In particular, the national team's insufficiently confident performance in last year's Copa America raised doubts among the leadership.
Additionally, the coach's decision to hire his son, Lukas Silvestri, as an assistant also sparked controversy. Previously, this position was held by former defender Juan, who had considerable experience, and the leadership was not pleased with the appointment of the coach's son.
Dorival Junior's brief tenure
The 62-year-old specialist took over as head coach of the Brazilian national team in January 2024. However, under his leadership, the five-time world champions are currently in fourth place in the World Cup qualifying tournament.
So far, there has been no official information regarding who will be the new head coach of the Brazilian national team.
