Formerly popular footballer Dmitriy Bulykin expressed his opinion on the new rules limiting the number of legionnaires, which will come into force soon. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov previously announced that starting from the 2028/2029 season, Premier League teams will be allowed to register only 10 legionnaires during the season, whereas currently this number is 13. At the same time, only 5 legionnaires can be on the field simultaneously, while currently their number is 8.
According to Bulykin, it would be appropriate to introduce the reduction of legionnaires to 10+5 not in three years, but from the next season. He stated that he fully supports the sports minister's initiative but expressed surprise that the reform was postponed for such a long time.
According to Bulykin, once the new limit is introduced, teams will have enough time to prepare during two transfer windows. Currently, after seven rounds in the Russian championship, the Krasnodar team is leading with 16 points.
This situation will help increase the competitiveness of teams when the new rules are implemented. Overall, reducing the number of legionnaires is expected to have a positive impact on the development of the country's football.
