Famous agent Paulo Barbosa shared his opinion about the new limit for legionnaires that will come into effect in the Russian Premier League starting from the 2028/2029 season. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Earlier, as stated by Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarov, within three years clubs will not be able to register more than 10 legionnaires for the season. At the same time, no more than 5 legionnaires can play simultaneously on the field for one team.
Barbosa emphasized that the new limit will create more opportunities for young Russian players. According to him, these rules will serve as an incentive for the academies of Russian clubs.
Clubs will be more cautious when selecting legionnaires. Currently, young talents in Russian football are trying to find their place.
The limit will be beneficial for both clubs and the national team, as young players will have the opportunity to get early playing time at their clubs. At present, clubs in the Russian Premier League can register 13 legionnaires for the season and use 8 of them simultaneously on the field.
The current Russian champion is the "Krasnodar" team. The new rules will help increase competition in football and promote the development of local players.
