After the game, he said goodbye to the fans, which fueled speculation that this could be the 38-year-old footballer's last home game with the national team. Additionally, Messi mentioned the possibility that he might not participate in the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentina team secured their spot in the tournament during the spring season. In the interview, Messi stated that he has not yet made his decision and emphasized that, considering his age, it would be logical if he is not part of the team.

He noted that the team is progressing day by day, match by match. The next World Cup will be held in the summer of 2026 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Messi will turn 39 in June of this year.
