Kislyak: Douglas Santos is not a loss for Russia

Sports20:22, 05-09-2025

Former Russia national team defender Matvey Kislyak commented on Douglas Santos, who plays for the Brazil national team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

According to him, Santos not playing for the Russian national team is not a big loss. Kislyak stated that there are many left-back defenders in Russia who deserve to play for the national team.

Although Douglas Santos obtained Russian citizenship in 2024, he ultimately decided to play for the Brazil national team. Brazil is a five-time world champion and has already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Therefore, the 31-year-old defender may be called up to his homeland's national team next summer. Douglas Santos has been playing for Zenit for six years and is currently the captain of the Saint Petersburg team.

His experience and leadership skills are of great importance to the team. There are many opinions about Santos's career and future opportunities, but for now, he is participating in the Brazil national team.
