He stated that he made this decision due to the consequences of injuries. In an interview, the former player admitted that he began to feel the first pains in the early stages of his career, at the age of twenty-two.

Lamela also spoke about how he felt after undergoing a complex knee surgery at the age of twenty-five. He emphasized that his knee felt foreign to him, as if it had been replaced.

Currently, Erik Lamela is working as an assistant to Matias Almeida in the coaching staff of the Spanish club "Sevilla." This decision was made considering his health and future career.

Additionally, he is contributing to teaching his experience to young footballers and nurturing the new generation in sports. After ending his playing career, Lamela is also trying himself in other areas within the sports field.
