Mikhail Prokopets, a sports lawyer, provided information about when Russian goalkeeper Nikita Haikin might make his debut for the Norway national team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Earlier, reports had circulated that the 30-year-old footballer had renounced his Russian sports citizenship. Haikin played for Norway's "Bodø/Glimt" club from 2019 to 2023, then spent several months in England before returning to Norway.
According to Prokopets, the five-year residency period for changing sports citizenship began at the end of March 2023. Accordingly, Haikin will not be able to play for the Norway national team before April 2028.
At the same time, he was called up to the Russian national team only once but did not make his debut for the team. This situation affects his international career.
The sports lawyer emphasized that the set period for Haikin to play for the new national team is important. Thus, the footballer will still have to wait a while before playing for Norway's official national team.
