Russia is considering a transition to Asian football

The Russian Football Union (RFS) may reconsider the issue of switching to the Asian Football Confederation in negotiations with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by "euro-football.ru". According to sources, even if FIFA lifts sanctions against Russia, the strict position of UEFA does not guarantee the return of Russian football to the international arena.
For this reason, the RFS may plan to use the switch to the Asian Confederation as the main argument in the negotiations. The number of countries opposing Russia in the Asian Football Confederation is only five, which seems much less severe compared to the situation in Europe.
It is also noted that the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee may influence FIFA and UEFA. This situation could potentially open the opportunity for the Russian youth national team to participate in the 2028 Olympic qualifying competitions.
As a reminder, Russian clubs and national teams have been banned from international football tournaments since 2022.
