«Benfica» football player accused of racism
The incident following the Champions League match between Benfica and Real (0:1) sparked significant discussions among the football community. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At the center of the dispute is the conflict between Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestiani and Real player Vinicius Junior. As a result of this situation, Prestiani faces the risk of a 10-match suspension.
The event began in the 50th minute. Vinicius scored a goal and danced near the corner flag.
After this action, an argument broke out between the players, and Vinicius received a yellow card. The main controversy occurred later: Vinicius informed the referee that Prestiani had insulted him by calling him a "monkey".
This claim was also confirmed by Real player Kylian Mbappe. The situation became so serious that the match was temporarily halted under the anti-racism protocol.
If UEFA's ethics and disciplinary inspectors find evidence confirming Prestiani's racist behavior, he could face a 10-match ban. This penalty was introduced in 2013 during the period when Gianni Infantino was UEFA's general secretary.
Such incidents have been observed before. For example, in 2021, during a Europa League match between Slavia and Rangers, Czech player Ondrej Kudela was suspended for racially abusing opponent Glen Kamara.
