"Real" and "Benfica" match: Conflict and investigation
One of the latest Champions League matches — the game between Benfica and Real Madrid — caused a great stir among the football community. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Although the match ended with a score of 0:1, discussions around it are still ongoing. The main events of the game were decided by a single goal on the field, but the tense moments throughout the 90 minutes, especially the temporary suspension of the match, attracted significant attention.
During the game, Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior informed the referees that he was insulted by the opposing team’s player Gianluca Prestia. As a result, the match was temporarily halted according to the protocol.
This situation sparked debates during the game. Former Paraguay national team goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert also expressed his opinion on the matter.
He supported Prestia and mainly criticized Vinicius’s behavior. According to Chilavert, in some cases, Vinicius is the first to engage in provocative actions.
He emphasized that this is also evident in video recordings. The former goalkeeper noted that Real Madrid’s squad includes players of various nationalities and backgrounds, but constant disputes tend to arise specifically around Vinicius.
According to him, psychological pressure and clashes on the football field have occurred before, but nowadays, due to the abundance of cameras and microphones, such incidents quickly become widely discussed.
Chilavert also criticized the modern football environment, stating that in earlier times, such situations were not taken as seriously.
He added that in today’s football, even the smallest actions are exaggerated in interpretation. He concluded his opinion by saying, “Vinicius often provokes conflicts himself, which is clearly visible in video recordings.”
UEFA has announced that it has launched an official investigation into this incident. Now the main question is what conclusions the investigation will reach and whether this case will end with disciplinary measures.
