Following this, Benfica club issued an official statement. The club confirmed that it received an official notification from UEFA regarding the player's suspension and announced its intention to appeal the decision.
At the same time, Benfica acknowledged that due to the short duration, this complaint might not affect the return match. In its statement, the club once again emphasized its firm stance against all forms of racism and discrimination.
The return match between Real Madrid and Benfica will take place on February 25 at the stadium in Madrid. The first game between these teams was held in Lisbon, where Real Madrid won 1-0.
