Laporta: Conflicts with Xavi are related to strategic decisions

Joan Laporta, former president of Barcelona and a candidate in the 2024 elections, revealed details about the events surrounding Xavi's departure from the head coach position. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Laporta, this decision was not driven by emotions but rather based on the club's future plans and internal environment. Laporta recalled that at that time, the contract extension was discussed and even celebrated by ordering "sushi."
However, according to him, that was not the main issue. The important aspect was Xavi's confidence in the club's future, specifically his attitude towards the team's chances of competing for the championship.
It was also revealed that there were several disagreements between the former coach and the management. According to Laporta, Xavi initially expressed confidence in the team but later changed his mind.
This caused serious doubts within the management regarding the team's future direction. Additionally, Laporta criticized Xavi's plan to replace 10 players.
This decision was said to contradict the club's internal policies and team environment. The management considered such changes risky, which also negatively affected their relationship.
After Xavi's departure, a new era began at Barcelona. However, Laporta's words indicate that at that time, there were serious conflicts within the club concerning strategy, trust, and direction.
The situation that arose was defined not by the events around "sushi," but by the clash of strategic views. Source: Zamin.uz
