Risk of imprisonment for two football players in Turkey due to betting

Football players from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce clubs may face imprisonment due to involvement in betting activities. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information is also reported by euro-football.ru. According to the data, it concerns Galatasaray player Metehan Baltadji and Fenerbahce captain Mert Hakan Yandash.
Metehan Baltadji faces up to 13 years, and Mert Hakan Yandash up to 17 years of imprisonment. According to the Sabah newspaper, Metehan Baltadji placed bets on Galatasaray matches at least twice.
Although he did not play in the starting lineup in those matches, he was considered to have had the opportunity to influence the outcome because he was on the team roster. According to Turkish law, professional athletes must disclose their status when participating in bookmaker activities.
However, Baltadji was found not to have complied with this requirement. Therefore, legal measures may be taken against him.
This situation once again highlights the need to strengthen oversight over the activities of players and sports organizations.
