Two football players in Turkey may be imprisoned due to sports betting

In Turkey, football players Metehan Baltadji and Mert Hakan Yandash are under the threat of imprisonment due to serious issues related to sports betting. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information is reported by euro-football.ru. Metehan Baltadji plays for the "Galatasaray" team, while Mert Hakan Yandash plays for the "Fenerbahce" club.
According to local sources, Baltadji faces up to 13 years, and Yandash up to 17 years of imprisonment. According to the Sabah newspaper, Metehan Baltadji placed bets on "Galatasaray" matches at least twice.
In those matches, he was not in the starting lineup but was included in the squad, thus having the possibility to indirectly influence the outcome. According to Turkish law, professional athletes are required to inform bookmakers about their status.
However, Baltadji is said to have failed to comply with this requirement. This situation may lead to serious consequences for the players.
