Football Players in Turkey May Be Held Accountable for Sports Betting

Football players from "Galatasaray" and "Fenerbahce" in Turkey may face criminal liability for participating in sports betting. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information is reported by euro-football.ru. It concerns Metehan Baltadji, a representative of the "Galatasaray" team, and Mert Hakan Yandash, the captain of "Fenerbahce".
According to local media, Baltadji faces up to 13 years, and Yandash up to 17 years of imprisonment. According to the Sabah newspaper, Baltadji placed bets on "Galatasaray" matches at least twice.
He was not in the starting lineup for those matches, but since he was included in the squad, he had the possibility to indirectly influence the outcome. Under current Turkish legislation, a professional athlete must notify bookmakers of their status in advance, but Baltadji was found not to have done so.
This situation requires athletes in Turkey to be more cautious regarding their activities. Athletes must strictly comply with the laws and avoid harming their professional careers.
Otherwise, they may face serious legal consequences.
