This year, for the first time, teams from higher education institutions are also trying their luck in the group stage matches of the Uzbekistan Cup.
The “Lochin” team, representing Qarshi State University, has gained special attention with its unique actions and determination in the competition. Notably, the debutant “Lochin” team managed to create a real sensation in its first participation. They confidently advanced to the next stage by defeating the current cup holder “Andijon” in the group stage, and then “Surxon.” Although the main focus of the team is on the youth, there is also an effort to combine experience and skill in the lineup.
Especially, the return of Zafar Polvonov, who recently hung up his boots, has instilled special confidence in the team. Polvonov, who continues his career in coaching, is now playing alongside the youth. We, of course, asked him about the reasons for this decision and his thoughts on the team's future.

"No one knew 'Lochin.' Now they have started to take us seriously. We have no intention of stopping yet," Zafar Polvonov began the conversation.
- It's interesting, you had ended your football career. What motivated you to return to the green field? How did the 'Lochin' option come about?
- That's right, I had ended my football career. But I decided to return because I can't imagine myself without football. I love football and my work very much. Those who have ended their careers playing in the Super League know how difficult it can be. I received an offer from the 'Lochin' team. I couldn't refuse the club's call. I really wanted to play again. I'm happy to be back on the green field.
- How did you manage to leave elite teams behind right from the debut? How did the group stage go compared to expectations?
- We knew that “Andijon” was the most disciplined team in the Super League. We analyzed how they might act tactically. To be honest, our extensive study of the opponent paid off. During the game, our team managed to neutralize the opponent's strong points. This is football. Someone wins or loses. I believe “Andijon” will perform well in the Super League again. They will make their fans happy with their games. In every match of the cup, my teammates gave their all. This is everyone's hard work.
- In preparing for strong teams, the psychological state is a priority...
- Everything depends on the player himself — how much psychological preparation he has done, how he is working on himself, and most importantly, how he maintains his self-confidence. I always say: "You know how to play and you can do it successfully."
- Does 'Lochin' intend to continue showing unexpected gifts?
- Our goal is to strive only forward. We will try to achieve our desired goals.
- What other tasks do you have in the team?
- My task in the 'Lochin' team is mainly to score goals and contribute to the team's victories. The rest will be shown by time.
