Spain to Play Friendly Match Against Egypt Instead of Argentina

The Spanish national team was forced to quickly reorganize its March match schedule after the planned match against Argentina within the framework of the 2026 Finalissima tournament was canceled. Zamin.uz reported this.
Considering the political situation in the region, the Union of European Football Associations officially announced that this match could not be held. Although this news dashed hopes to witness an interesting clash between Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi, Spain found a new opponent on its path to continuing preparations.
According to Marca, the Egyptian Football Federation positively accepted the offer from the Royal Spanish Football Federation. As a result, on March 31, the Spanish national team will play a friendly match against Egypt.
Egyptian head coach Hossam Hassan approved of this match, and both teams aim to thoroughly prepare for the upcoming World Cup. It is expected that world-famous footballer Mohamed Salah will take to the field in the Egyptian squad.
Spain has also agreed to play another friendly match against the Serbian national team on March 27. This match is being organized during a period when several national teams had to search for new opponents following the cancellation of the planned tournament in Doha during the international break.
The match will take place at the Estadio de la Cerámica stadium in Villarreal, Spain. The Union of European Football Associations had also considered other options to preserve the match between Spain and Argentina.
Specifically, proposals to hold the match at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium or move it to other European arenas were discussed. However, the Argentine national team rejected these options and only proposed the date of March 31, which did not fit Spain's plans.
Now, these friendly matches are expected to be the final tests before the 2026 World Cup. The Spanish national team will compete in Group H against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay teams.
The Egyptian national team, after changes in the initial schedule, has been placed in Group G alongside Belgium and New Zealand. These matches are of great importance for both teams as they offer an opportunity to gain experience against strong opponents and test new tactics.
