Guardiola assessed the 2024/25 season: “Champions League qualification is our greatest victory”
“Manchester City” head coach Josep Guardiola expressed his thoughts on the recently concluded 2024/25 football season. Although this year was tougher and more complex than expected for the Spanish specialist, one of the club's most important tasks — securing a Champions League qualification for the next season — was recognized as the greatest success.

According to Guardiola, during this season, the team faced serious difficulties not only in the English championship but also on European fields. The Spanish specialist specifically noted in his interview that the team had lost stability in its playing style, physical condition, and overall morale.

“The season was very shaky; we struggled with constant processes and various problems. We made many mistakes in the Champions League battles and often failed to capitalize on our opportunities. Especially in games against strong opponents, we could not achieve the desired results. However, in any case, we accomplished the most important task — we secured a place in the Champions League. This is, especially in England, more difficult and valuable than winning some cups,” Guardiola said in his remarks.

Guardiola believes that competition in the Premier League has intensified sharply in recent years. Currently, 7–9 clubs are seriously competing for a Champions League spot in the English championship at the same time. This makes each season even more complicated for “Manchester City” and other leading teams.

“Today, the competition in the English championship has reached a level where securing a 'top-4' spot is relatively easier than before; now, it requires a lot of effort to get into that top. Securing a Champions League spot has turned into a real battle,” said the head coach.

The coach also noted that by the end of the season, the team had achieved positive dynamics, which he considers a significant achievement. Now, the “Citizens” face another important competition — the Club World Cup, and the team aims to achieve high results in this tournament.

“By the end of the season, we restored our game as a team and got into good shape. Now we have a new, very important task — the Club World Cup. We aim to put all our strength into this tournament and achieve the highest results, and we believe in it,” Guardiola said.

It should be noted that the concluded season ended without trophies for “Manchester City.” The “Citizens” finished third in the Premier League and suffered a defeat in a tense battle against “Real Madrid” in the Champions League. Additionally, the team unexpectedly missed an opportunity against “Crystal Palace” in the English League Cup final.

Although this situation has led to various opinions among the club's management and fans, Guardiola expressed confidence that lessons would be learned from these mistakes and that they would return to the field stronger next season.

“We will analyze our failures this season, learn from them, and come back even stronger next season. We are striving to return to the highest level in the fight for trophies,” concluded Josep Guardiola.
