Maksim Mitrofanov, who serves as the Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFS), commented on the participation of Medialiga clubs in the Russian Cup. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to Mitrofanov, a problem has arisen concerning the representatives of Medialiga. It has become clear that these teams cannot participate in the national cup competition according to sports law. "A small problem has been identified with Medialiga, and we are trying to resolve it.
They do not fully comply with the law – we are thinking about what to do. Read the sports law, we found out that they do not have the right to participate in the Russian Cup.
We hope that we can overcome this issue; there is a possibility," Mitrofanov emphasized in an interview with "RB Sport." It is known that in recent seasons, Medialiga teams have participated in the Russian Cup through regional pathways, but they have not been able to reach the later stages. Last season, the winner of the Russian Cup was the Moscow team CSKA.
In the superfinal of the competition, the "army men" defeated "Rostov" in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw. Thus, the official participation of Medialiga clubs in the cup is limited due to legislative restrictions.
This issue is expected to be resolved in the future.
