Roman Asxabodze, the general director of the Fakel team, expressed his thoughts on the continuation of cooperation with head coach Igor Shalimov. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The 56-year-old specialist took charge of the Voronezh team at the beginning of April, replacing Dmitriy Pyatibratov. In an interview with Sport24, Asxabodze emphasized that Shalimov initially signed a long-term contract.
He added that the coach came to the team during its most difficult period and understood that changing the situation was very complicated. He also reminded that by the end of the 2024/25 season of the Russian championship, the Fakel team finished in last place, alongside Orenburg and Khimki, leaving the elite division.
This situation brought difficulties for the team, but the management and coaches are striving to improve the situation in the future. Shalimov's long-term plans are aimed at opening a new chapter for Fakel.
The team faces tough tasks ahead, but the trust between the management and coaches serves as a basis for continuing cooperation. Fakel fans and the sports community are expecting even better results in the upcoming season.
