Roman Babaev, the general director of the CSKA team in Moscow, expressed his opinion about the situation in the Russian championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, the leadership of the Russian Professional Football League (RPL) will need to resolve issues related to the Moscow "Torpedo" team and the "Sochi" football club. One owner of the Moscow team was arrested for attempting to influence the results of the competition, and "Sochi" player Vladimir Pisarskiy was involved in a betting scandal. Babaev emphasized that the reduction of the number of teams participating in the national championship to 15 is unacceptable.
He stated that he does not remember such a difficult month in his career and that reducing to 15 teams would lead to very negative consequences. Many believe that this situation should not be allowed. The new season of the Russian championship will start on July 18.
In the current situation, it is crucial that the competition is conducted fairly and that issues in the football sector are resolved. Protecting the interests of football teams and organizations and ensuring transparency are seen as priority tasks.
Therefore, decisions regarding the future of the league and the number of teams will be made cautiously.
