Maksim Mitrofanov, who serves as the Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFI), commented on the possibility of hosting the Champions League final and UEFA Super Cup matches in Russia. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Mitrofanov was asked how the RFI plans to return these matches. It should be noted that the Champions League final was scheduled to be held in Saint Petersburg in 2022.
In 2023, Kazan was supposed to host the UEFA Super Cup match. However, due to the imposed sanctions, the matches were moved to other countries.
According to Mitrofanov, once the football sanctions are lifted, these matches will be returned to Russian cities. Initial negotiations with UEFA on this matter took place in 2022, when the sanctions were imposed.
“As soon as Russian clubs return, the Super Cup will be reinstated in Kazan, and the Champions League final in Saint Petersburg. This could happen within a year or two, once we participate in all competitions again,” Mitrofanov stated to “RB Sport.”
Additionally, under the current sanctions, the Russian national team is only holding friendly matches.
