As of July 1, 2025, the number of employed people in Uzbekistan's economy amounts to 14.6 million. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment, the number of unemployed is 800 thousand. The population not covered by the labor market, including children, students, pensioners, and other groups, totals 22.5 million.
Of these, the working-age population amounts to 12 million. The Central Bank emphasizes that the continuous growth of the population and the increase in the youth share in the country, while stimulating economic growth, may create pressure on the labor market in the future.
In particular, the currently working-age population will gradually join the labor market, significantly increasing the demand for jobs. This will affect employment levels, wages, and economic productivity.
In recent years, the growth rate of the working-age population, that is, those aged 15 to 64, has increased considerably. For example, in 2022, this growth rate was 0.8 percent, while in the second quarter of 2025, it reached 1.4 percent.
This change is related to the structural transformation of the population, the increase in the youth share, and their rapid entry into the labor market. If this trend continues and the labor force is effectively absorbed in the labor market, it may support economic growth while causing an increase in demand-driven inflationary pressure.
