
Locusts have multiplied in Kyrgyzstan, causing significant damage especially to the regions bordering Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Early spring, drought, and high temperatures in May created favorable conditions for the increase of the insects. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, the most affected areas are Jalal-Abad, Osh, and Batken regions.
In Jalal-Abad region, approximately 33 thousand hectares, in Osh 21.4 thousand hectares, and in Batken region 24 thousand hectares of land were affected by locusts. In Batken region, more than 3 thousand hectares were treated from the air with special measures.
Overall, farmers inspected more than 154 thousand hectares and locusts were detected in 108 thousand hectares. In these areas, chemical control measures were carried out using special equipment and light aviation.
