Sugar production volume in Uzbekistan has significantly decreased in recent years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to data from the State Statistics Committee for January-June 2025, a total of 165.5 thousand tons of sugar was produced in the country during this period. This figure is considerably lower compared to previous years.
For example, in the first half of 2023, 332.6 thousand tons, and in 2024, 227.8 thousand tons of sugar were produced. Thus, over the past two years, sugar production volume has nearly halved.
Experts emphasize that several factors are influencing this situation. Among them are a decrease in raw material cultivation in agriculture, technical problems at production enterprises, and changes in sugar prices in foreign markets as the main reasons.
Such a decline may negatively affect the stability of sugar prices in the domestic market. As a result, there arises a need to increase import volumes to maintain the balance of supply and demand.
This negative trend in sugar production is becoming an important issue not only economically but also socially. Officials have stated that necessary measures will be taken in the future to stabilize production volumes and develop the sector.
These data are based on a report provided by the State Statistics Committee.
